Tim Thomas, Solicitor and Director of Employment and Skills Policy, EEF

Tim is responsible for our engagement with national and European governments on employment and immigration policy, their associated legal and regulatory issues and pensions and workforce issues that impact the manufacturing sector.

He provides expert legal input on key employment representation issues, frequently writing EEF’s formal responses to Government, giving evidence in Parliament and also providing an employer perspective to key Government officials responsible for policy development. Tim regularly appears in print and broadcast media and is called upon to speak in the UK and the EU on key issues affecting Britain as it prepares to leave the EU.

Prior to joining EEF, Tim worked in the security sector, providing advice on policy and legal issues to a wide range of corporations. He also maintained a presence in Brussels, working closely with the employer’s sectorial organisation and a range of governmental departments and the European Commission.

Tim began his career in general private legal practice, advising and representing private and public sector organisations. He has also served as a solicitor inside government and was a higher court advocate practising in the High Court.
