Tony Walker, Managing Director, Toyota Motor Europe London office

Tony joined Toyota at Toyota Manufacturing UK, as General Manager, Human Resources in 1990. As one of the first employees of Toyota Manufacturing UK he played a fundamental role in the establishment and development of the company, before taking up a new challenge in Toyota Motor Europe’s HQ in Brussels in 2001.

At Toyota Motor Europe he held the position of Vice President of Human Resources and, at different times, senior positions in Manufacturing Corporate Planning and Production Planning & Project Management.

Tony returned to Toyota Manufacturing UK in January 2010 to take up the role of Deputy Managing Director, with direct responsibility for the functions of HR, Accounting & Finance, Corporate Planning, External Affairs and Production Control. In April 2014 he also became Managing Director of Toyota Motor Europe London Office.

Tony is President of the SMMT (Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders), is on the Automotive Council and Chairman of the Automotive Council Business Environment and Skills Group. In 2015 Tony was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant of Derbyshire. In 2016 Tony was also appointed as Prince’s Ambassador for Responsible Business in the East Midlands by Business in the Community.

Tony has worked for Toyota for 27 years and in the motor industry for over 40 years.

He graduated from Newcastle-upon-Tyne University with a BSc Hons in Psychology in 1977, taking up a graduate trainee position within the motor industry. He has Honorary Doctorates from the University of Derby and from Nottingham Business School and is a fellow of Burton and South Derbyshire College.

Tony is married with three grown up children and three grandchildren. In his spare time he enjoys classic cars and outdoor and community activities.
